Clara Mandel, 88, of 349 Haydenville Road, Leeds, died Thursday at Linda Manor Extended Care Facility following a long illness.
Born in Turok, Russia, on March 15, 1915, daughter of Benzion and Bailye Zaitlin Zaretsky, she attended schools in Russia.
She immigrated to the United States as a young girl.
She was co-owner, with her husband, of the former Mandel's Deli on Columbus Avenue for many years, retiring in 1966.
Her husband, Samuel Mandel, whom she married Nov. 8, 1936, died April 21, 1989.
She leaves two sons, Daniel R. Mandel of Pittsfield and Barry Mandel of Northport, N.Y.; a daughter, Dr. Barbara D. Mandel of Northampton, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private family funeral for Clara Mandel, who died March 11, 2004, will be held at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with Rabbi Lynn Liberman, spiritual leader of Knesset Israel Synagogue, officiating.
Burial will follow in Knesset Israel Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The memorial period will be observed at the family home, 45 Acorn St., following the funeral. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.
