Sears Roy Van Alstyne Jr

Sears Roy Van Alstyne Jr., 58, of Sherwood Drive died Saturday at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 5, 1945, son of Sears R. Van Alstyne Sr. and Mary Una Barnes Van Alstyne, he was a 1964 graduate of Lenox High School and attended the former Berkshire Christian College.
He was a member of the baseball and basketball teams in both high school and college.
A financial services representative for New England Financial, he founded Van Alstyne Associates in Pittsfield, a financial planning and insurance brokerage agency, in 1970.
He received many awards in recognition of his accomplishments and years of service in the insurance industry, including the National Quality and the National Sales Achievement awards. He was also a life member of the industry's Million Dollar Round Table.
Mr. Van Alstyne was a member of the Berkshire County Chamber of Commerce and voluntereed as chairman of its small business development committee.
A longtime member of Hope Advent Christian Church, he served on its finance committee and was chairman of fund-raising activities. He also was head usher for many years, served on both the parish evangelism commission and adult fellowship program, and was instrumental in the start-up of the Berkshire Christian School at Hope Church.
He had been a member of the Lenox Planning Board.
He was a member of Greenock Country Club for many years, and enjoyed bowling and softball.
He and his wife, the former Patricia Jeanne Hewitt, were married June 24, 1967, at Dover (N.H.) Advent Christian Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Matthew Sears Van Alstyne of Pittsfield; a daughter, Jennifer Jeanne Milfs of Pekin, Ill.; five sisters, Miriam Smith of Raleigh, N.C., Phyllis Miller of Lenox Dale, Patricia Plue and Beverly Krol, both of Pittsfield, and Susan Halpin of Lenox; four brothers, Wesley Van Alstyne of Sun City West, Ariz., Charles Van Alstyne of Pittsfield, Thomas Van Alstyne of Lenox Dale and David Van Alstyne of Lenox, and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Sears R. Van Alstyne will be conducted Thursday at 10 at Hope Church in Lenox by Pastor Douglas Foss. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 5:30 to 8 at Hope Church.
Those who wish may make memorial donations to Berkshire Christian School in care of ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240. He also is survived by his beloved grandchildren, Ashlyn and Brytan Milfs. Sears Van Alstyne was a well-respected and successful businessman, but more importantly, he was a devoted, loving husband, attentive and adoring father, and faithful, caring brother.
He was a doting grandfather who was joyously awaiting the arrival of twin grandbabies. His kindness was felt by all who knew him and the unconditional love he had for his family was matched only by his love of God and his unwavering faith and trust in Him.
