Edward Kenneth Zimmerman Sr., 85, of 28 Lombard St. died Saturday at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington after a brief illness.
Born in West Seneca, N.Y., on Sept. 25, 1918, son of Paul and Verne Smith Zimmerman, he moved to Massachusetts as a child and was educated in Mill River schools.
He resided in the Milford, Conn., area for 35 years and moved to Pittsfield in the early 1970s.
A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he enlisted in 1944 and served with the 82nd Airborne Division in Central Europe, the Rhineland and the Ardennes. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
Mr. Zimmerman was a self-employed painter and contractor in the Milford area until retiring in 1970.
He enjoyed collecting stamps, and was an avid painter.
He leaves his companion of 30 years, Doris Cabral; a daughter, June Rose Stalker of Clayton; three sons, Edward K. Zimmerman Jr. of Melbourne, Fla., Kenneth John Zimmerman of Montreal and Richard Gene Zimmerman of Macon, N.C.; a brother, William Zimmerman of Nashua, N.H.; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Edward K. Zimmerman Sr., age 85, died March 6, 2004. The funeral and burial will be private. There will be no calling hours.
If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Clayton Church of God in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield.
