Dorothy C. Heidel

Dorothy C. Heidel, 90, of 53 Yorkshire Ave. died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Troy, N.Y., on April 13, 1913, daughter of Hans A. and Katharine Rall Wilde, she was a 1931 graduate of Lansingburg High School in Troy.

She moved to Pittsfield at age 18 and graduated from the former Berkshire Business College.

Mrs. Heidel was employed as a secretary by Dr. Ben Cole from 1955 to 1980. She worked in the city treasurer's office from 1933 to 1938.

She was a member of Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir for more than 45 years and was a member of the "Puppets at Zion's." She also was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star Collina Chapter 69.

Her husband, Francis C. Heidel, whom she married Oct. 6, 1938, died Feb. 25, 1983.

She leaves two daughters, Linda Fischer of Dalton and Gail Erselcuk of Lafayette, Ind., seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Dorothy C. Heidel, who died March 1, 2004, will be conducted Saturday at 11:30 at Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Peter Boehringer, pastor. There will be no calling hours.

Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Adams at a later date. Among survivors are her grandchildren, John Fischer, Lorinda Ulmer, Safika Sweeney, Omer Erselcuk, Ayse Erselcuk, Emine Erselcuk and Leyla Erselcuk; her great-grandchildren, Zachary Fischer, Alyssa Fischer, Joshua Fischer and Jackson Sweeney; her son-in-law, Raymond Fischer, and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Carl Wilde, and two sisters, Pauline Jones and Eugenia Miner, predeceased her. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in care of WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
