James J. Salzarulo

James J. Salzarulo, 56, of 166 First St. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center after a long illness.
Born in Pittsfield on July 21, 1947, he was the son of the late Muriel E. Perry DeCarlo. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, the late Augustine J. DeCarlo, and attended Lenox schools.
Mr. Salzarulo served in the Marine Corps as a corporal, enlisting on Sept. 17, 1964. He served two years at Chu Lai, Vietnam, and then served two years in Quantico, Va., and the Caribbean.
He was honorably discharged in September 1968. He received several medals for his service.
Mr. Salzarulo was the co-owner of Jim and John's Roofing Co. for over 20 years.
He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 448 and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He leaves two sons, James L. Salzarulo II and Jordan M. Salzarulo, both of Pittsfield; a daughter, Wendy S. Salzarulo of Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, William A. Salzarulo of Highland, Texas, and Thomas Salzarulo of Pittsfield; a sister, Donna J. McClelland of Richmond, and a granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- James J. Salzarulo, 56, died Feb. 26, 2004, at Berkshire Medical Center. The funeral will be held Sunday at 1 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. Services with military honors will be officiated by the Rev. William Furey. Calling hours will be held from 11 until the time of the service.
Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made in his memory to VFW Post 448 in care of the funeral home.
He is also survived by his longtime best friend, John Healy, and his loving granddaughter, Haley M. Salzarulo, both of Pittsfield.
