Angelo J. Andretta

Angelo J. Andretta, 49, of 7 Caratina Ave. died yesterday at home after a long illness.

Born in Hoboken, N.J., on Nov. 11, 1954, son of Angelo and Carmella Piccinni Andretta, he moved to Pittsfield from New Jersey 15 years ago. He was educated in New Jersey and Pittsburgh schools and was a 1974 graduate of Emerson (N.J.) High School.

He served in the Army. He attended Western Wyoming Community College in Wyoming. He was a 1985 graduate of Keane College in Union, N.J., where he received his bachelor's degree in psychology.

He also graduated in 1988 from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where he received a master's degree in psychology.

He was the clinical director of the Hillcrest Educational Center in Great Barrington. He also worked at the Key Program in Pittsfield and did private counseling at the former Hillcrest Hospital. He stopped working in 1996 on account of poor health.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed reading, traveling, writing poetry and camping.

He played tennis, bicycled and trained with weights. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Giants.

He leaves his wife, the former Laurie Monks of Pittsfield, whom he married on Aug. 17, 1980, in New Jersey; a sister, Lucille Morton of Bayonne, N.J., and a son, Ricky S. Andretta at home.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Angelo J. Andretta, who died on Feb. 20, 2004, will be Monday at 9:15 from the DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Sacred Heart Church.

Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Angelo and his family will be forever grateful to Sister Katherine Flanagan for her enduring spiritual support. His most cherished moments are times spent with his son, Ricky. Angelo also leaves his three nephews, Sean Morton, Barry Bartlett and Dale Monks II, as well as his niece, Nicole Monks.

He also leaves his longtime friend, Joseph Salerno of New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hillcrest Educational Centers in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
