Thomas Joseph Henry Jr., 70, of Huntington Beach, Calif., formerly of Lenox, died Thursday at Huntington Beach Hospital.
Born in New York City on Feb. 19, 1934, son of Jeannette Armstrong Henry of Flushing, N.Y., and the late Thomas J. Henry Sr., he graduated in 1952 from Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn and received his bachelor of arts degree in 1956 and his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering in 1957, both from Columbia University. He earned his master of science degree in management from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1971.
He moved to Lenox in 1960 and to New York in the 1970s.
Mr. Henry served in the Navy for four years, and was stationed at Sandia Base, N.M., and China Lake and Long Beach, Calif.
An electrical engineer, Mr. Henry retired from Lear Astronics Corp. in California as a chief technical officer and senior engineer. Before that, he was vice president of engineering and marketing at Kollsman Instruments Corp. in Nashua, N.H. He began his career with GE, first in Pittsfield and later in Utica and Binghamton, N.Y.
He was a longtime member of Mensa and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., as well as the chairman of the Republican Committee in Berkshire County from 1967 to 1972.
He was a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
His first wife, the former Lee Townsend, died Oct. 29, 1991, after 34 years of marriage.
He and his wife, the former Mary Lou Ruchti, were married Feb. 19, 1994.
Besides his wife and mother, he leaves two sons, Garry Henry of Pearl River, N.Y., and Keith Henry of Vernon, N.Y.; six daughters, Vicki Hutchinson of Danbury, Conn., Debby Novak of San Diego, Colleen Amarose of Clinton, N.Y., Kate Workman of Boca Raton, Fla., Laura Henry of Binghamton and Jacqueline Kennedy of North Andover; three stepsons, Ryan Williams of Grass Valley, Calif., Mitchell Williams of Long Beach and Pryce Williams of Huntington Beach; two sisters, Jeannette Henry of Huntington, N.Y., and Mary Jane Henry of Whitestone, N.Y.; a brother, Patrick Henry of Walla Walla, Wash., 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Thomas Joseph Henry Jr., who died Feb. 19, 2004, will be Wednesday at 8:15 from ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at St. Ann's Church by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 to 5:30 and 7 to 9. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to may make donations in Mr. Henry's memory to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association, both in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240. Survivors include nine nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Dominick Amarose, and his grandson, Joey Amarose, of Clinton, N.Y.
