Robert C. Johnson, 80, of 45 Patricia Ave. died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on June 13, 1923, son of Edward F. and Laura Callahan Johnson, he was a lifelong resident of Pittsfield and a 1941 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Mr. Johnson purchased the R.H. Kelly Adjusting Service and the Fred H. Purches Insurance Agency and ran the businesses for 40 years, retiring in 1986.
He enjoyed reading novels about early American Indians and also enjoyed fly fishing.
A golfer, he was a member of the Berkshire Hills Country Club for 53 years and shot the lowest score for a left-handed golfer at the original course at Berkshire Hills.
Mr. Johnson was a communicant of St. Francis Church.
He leaves his wife, the former Marilyn McMahon, whom he married Nov. 14, 1969; two sons, Michael C. Johnson of Vancouver, Wash., and Robert M. Johnson of Tucson, Ariz., and a sister, Rita Fox of Quincy, Pa. He was predeceased by a son, James T. Johnson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mr. Robert C. Johnson in Pittsfield on Wednesday, Feb. 18. Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 21, at 8:15 a.m. from DWYER FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Church celebrated by the Rev. Paul Bombardier, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Friday, Feb. 20, from 4 to 7. If friends desire, donations may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires or to the Jimmy Fund in care of DWYER FUNERAL HOME in his memory.
Mr. Johnson was predeceased by a sister, T. Mildred Barker, and a brother, Edward F. Johnson Jr.
