Sherry Ann Bird

Sherry Ann Bird, 59, of 19 Edgemere Road died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born in Shamokin, Pa., on Sept. 16, 1944, daughter of Oscar and Grace Adams Wallick, she was valedictorian in her graduating class at Coal Township High School in Shamokin.

Before moving to Pittsfield in 1968, she was employed as a secretary in the Pentagon.

In Pittsfield, she was employed for more than 25 years as office manager for Dr. Robert Schwartz, retiring in 1998.

She was a member of the Dalton United Methodist Church and had taught Sunday school there for more than 10 years.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was an avid football and baseball fan, especially of Penn State. Ms. Bird enjoyed playing bingo.

Her former husband, George Bird, died in 1999.

She leaves a son, Bill Bird of Adams; two brothers, Scott Wallick of Mount Horab, Wis., and Harold Wallick of Roanoke, Va., and two granddaughters.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, Pittsfield, with the Rev. Eric Dupee, pastor of the Lenox United Methodist Church, officiating. Following cremation, burial will be at a later date in Pennsylvania.

There will be no calling hours. Among survivors are her granddaughters, Amanda and Abby, and her sisters-in-law, Deborah and Irene Wallick. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the George Bird Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home at 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
