Donald R. Dubree

Donald R. Dubree, 70, of 60 Eleanor Road died Friday at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston after a long illness.

Born in Overton, Texas, on March 2, 1933, son of Louis C. and Minnie M. Gillentine Dubree, he was a 1954 graduate of Whitehall (Ariz.) High School.

He moved from Lakewood, Calif., to Pittsfield in November 1991.

A Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he served from Aug. 14, 1954, until Nov. 17, 1977, including aboard the USS Chicago, Columbus and Albany, retiring as a chief gunner's mate.

Mr. Dubree later worked for eight years at Robinson's Department Store in Cerritos, Calif., until 1986.

He was a soccer coach in American Youth Soccer Organization League in Lakewood.

He played golf, bowled in four leagues and was a sports enthusiast.

He also enjoyed reading.

He and his wife, the former Katherine M. Munn, would have celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary May 5.

Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Carol L. Dubree of Lake Elsinore, Calif., Mary K. Weise of Lakewood and Deborah A. Glade-Johnson of Anaheim, Calif.; two brothers, Odell L. Dubree of Marietta, Ga., and Raymond Dubree of Pine Bluff, Ariz.; a sister, Mary Karsch of Woodbridge, N.J., and five grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Donald R. Dubree, who died Feb. 13, 2004, will be conducted Wednesday at 11 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., by the Rev. John Salatino, pastor of St. Mark's Church. Entombment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 10 until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Athenaeum in care of the funeral home.

Mr. Dubree is survived by his adored grandchildren, Jessica Weise, Bradley and Jordan Glade and Brandon and Cameron Freese. He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
