Sister Mary L. Carr

Sister Mary L. Carr, also known as Sister Elizabeth Therese, 81, formerly of Pittsfield, died Saturday at Mont Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke, where she had resided for a short time.
She taught at St. Joseph's High School from 1943 to 1973.
Born in Springfield in November 1922, daughter of Walter and Mabel Barry Carr, she attended Holy Name School and graduated in 1939 from Cathedral High School there, and earned a bachelor of arts degree from the former College of Our Lady of the Elms, now Elms College, in Chicopee.
She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph from Holy Name Parish in Springfield.
Sister Carr was the bookkeeper at Our Lady of Hope Parish until retiring to St. Joseph's Residence at Mont Marie in 2003. Before that, she had worked for the Spanish Apostolate in the Diocese of Springfield, and taught school in Pawtucket, R.I.
She leaves a sister, Constance Nigro of Hilton Head, S.C., and a brother, Bernard Joseph Carr of West Columbia, S.C.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The Liturgy of Christian Burial for Sister Mary L. Carr, who died Feb. 14, 2004, will be in Mont Marie Chapel on Thursday, Feb. 19, at 5. The wake will take place at Mont Marie in Holyoke on Thursday from 2 to 4:30, with a prayer service at 3.
Burial will follow in Mont Marie Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, Mont Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Road, Suite 1, Holyoke, MA 01040-2739.
Arrangements entrusted to SAMPSON FAMILY CHAPELS in Springfield. Survivors include Sister Mary Carr's sisters in community, several nieces and nephews, her grandniece Chloe Nigro, several cousins and many friends in Pawtucket, Pittsfield and Springfield, including Joan Sullivan of Springfield.
