Corey J.B. Olsen, 100, formerly of 54 Alden Ave., died Wednesday at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided since July 2002.
Born in New York City on May 24, 1903, son of Anton B. and Martha M. Olsen Olsen, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and the General Electric apprentice toolmaker course.
During World War II, he produced large quantities of airplane models used by the government for spotting.
He had been employed by GE and as a toolmaker, mold and model maker from 1918 until 1968.
He had several patents to his credit.
Mr. Olsen attended Pilgrim Memorial Church.
He spent his leisure time developing and building those things that interested him: a racer with an air-cooled engine, an airplane, a diving helmet, a sailboat, a motorboat with an inboard-outboard engine and the first weed cutter for Onota Lake.
He also ground the lens for the telescope at Springside Park. Following his retirement, one of his last accomplishments was building a cabin cruiser. He also had a business making fly-tying vises.
He was a member of the GEAA rifle club, the Power Squadron and the GE Quarter Century Club.
He and his wife of 73 years, the former Emily B. Rhodes, were married Aug. 23, 1930.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Emily "Bunni" Ptak of Pittsfield; a son, James A. Olsen of Santa Fe, N.M.; a brother, Harold C. Olsen of Pittsfield; a sister, Anne O. Brownlee of Sun City, Fla.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Corey J.B. Olsen will be held at the convenience of the family at a time and place to be announced. There will be no calling hours.
Following cremation, burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Boys and Girls Club or HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
