Joseph Anthony Wechter

Joseph Anthony Wechter, 86, formerly of 326 Old Windsor Road, died Wednesday at Laurel Lake Center in Lee.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 24, 1917, son of Emile A. and MaryAnn Brielman Wechter, he was a 1935 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
He served in the National Guard during World War II.
Mr. Wechter was employed by Underwood Typewriters in Pittsfield for 20 years. In the late 1940s, he and Donald Ostrikis formed Waco Typewriter Repair and Sales, from which he retired in 1980.
He was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and a longtime member of Wahconah Country Club.
He enjoyed playing softball and pitched a no-hitter in the Pittsfield-Dalton league in his early years.
He also enjoyed bowling and playing golf.
His wife, the former Eleanor Blakesley, whom he married Feb. 3, 1940, died May 8, 1993.
He leaves a son, Richard B. Wechter of Westfield; two daughters, Jane F. Budrow of Phoenix and Judith A. Besier of Guyton, Ga.; two sisters, Jessica E. Parks of Dalton and Mary Ann Kirby of Lenox; and six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Joseph A. Wechter, who died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, will be Monday, Feb. 2, at 10 at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Pasqual Baldasaro, deacon of St. Agnes' Church, officiating.
Burial will be at a later date in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 9 to 10 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Wechter may be made to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main St.
He leaves six grandchildren, Dean Eaton Budrow, Joseph Kasmar Wechter, Emily Wechter, Todd Joseph Besier, Heather Carolyn Besier and Skye Besier. Mr. Wechter was predeceased by his brother, John L. Wechter, on Oct. 2, 2002.
