Walter E. Lewis, 86, of 217 Harryel St. died Thursday at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided since Oct. 1.
Born in Stockbridge on Jan. 3, 1918, son of Garfield F. and Florence A. Pratt Lewis, he was a graduate of the former Williams High School in Stockbridge.
Mr. Lewis was employed by GE as a test technician for 38 years, retiring in 1980.
He last worked as the doorman at Wellington Funeral Home for 15 years.
He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, the GE Quarter Century Club and Mystic Lodge AF & AM. He enjoyed woodworking and was a Red Sox fan.
He leaves his wife, the former Eleanor A. Groves, whom he married Oct. 7, 1945.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Sharon Iacuessa of Pittsfield; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mr. Walter E. Lewis, who died Jan. 29, 2004, will be conducted Tuesday at 10 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Gay Rahn. Following cremation, burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
