Attilio L. Forte

Attilio L. Forte, 72, of 145 Dewey Ave. died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pico, province of Frosinone, Italy, on son of Domenico and Maria C. DiMugno Forte, he emigrated to the United States with his family in 1947 and settled in Pittsfield, where he attended schools, including Pittsfield High School.
Mr. Forte was employed as a mechanic at Haddad Motors, on West Street and later in Lenox, for 35 years, retiring in 1987.
He and his wife, the former Theresa "Anna" Battaini, also owned West Side Clocks for 20 years.
He trained at the former Berkshire Conservatory of Music as a tenor and sang opera in Danbury, Conn. He also was host of the "Italian-American Hour" on radio station WBRK in the 1950s.
He was a member of Berkshire Chapter 186 of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors Inc., based in Columbia, Pa.
He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and enjoyed gardening, visiting his hometown in Italy, going to flea markets and riding motorcycles.
His wife, whom he married May 9, 1952, in Mount Carmel Church, died March 22, 2003.
He leaves a daughter, Anna Maria Forte of Pittsfied; a son, Richard D. Forte of Pittsfield, and a sister, Maria Dwyer of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Attilio L. Forte, who died Jan. 30, 2004, will be Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 9 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 in Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, Feb. 2, from 4 to 7. He also leaves nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and his best friend, his dog Jacques, and his buddy, his dog Max. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
Mr. Forte was predeceased by two brothers, Angelo Forte and Rosario Forte, and a sister, Concetta Pompei.
