Walter Everett Fuller, 83, of 58 Orchard St. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
He was a longtime resident of Becket, where he served as chief of police for many years, before moving to Pittsfield in 1995.
Born in Great Barrington on Jan. 9, 1921, the son of Leon H. and Louise Fisher Fuller, he attended schools in Great Barrington.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific.
Mr. Fuller was employed as a boiler room fireman for Kimberly Clark Corp. in Lee for 18 years, retiring in 1984. He also served as a constable in Becket.
He was a member of the Becket Sportsmen's Club, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Pittsfield, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, snowshoeing and hiking.
His wife, the former Mabel E. Rice, whom he married Nov. 5, 1955, died Oct. 20, 1996.
He leaves four sons, David W. Fuller of Middlefield, William E. Fuller of Pittsfield, Gary C. Fuller of Dalton and Gordon B. Fuller of Hillsdale, N.Y.; a daughter, Irene E. Twing of Pittsfield; a sister, Irene Davidson of Ashley Falls; 22 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Walter E. Fuller, who died Feb. 1, 2004, will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Great Barrington.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Lions Club, both in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, which is handling arrangements.
