Earl A. Beals

Earl A. Beals, 89, formerly of 379 East St., Providence Court, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided since June 2002.
He had also resided at Optimum Care in the Berkshires for four years.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 20, 1914, son of William J. and Sophie Beisiegel Beals, he was educated in local schools.
He was employed at GE for 41 years, retiring in 1977 as a production group leader.
Mr. Beals was a member of the Morningside Baptist Church. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs and the GEAA. He was a past president of the Eagles and a former member of the Mount Greylock Lodge I.O.O.F, where he served as a past district deputy grand master for 10 years.
He was also a past state commander of the Massachusetts State Guard Vets and a distinguished service medal holder. He was also a retired executive commander of the Pittsfield Auxiliary Police. He was a past vice president of the Retirees Union Local 254-255 and a past state quartermaster for 23 years, retiring in 1992.
His wife, the former Grace M. Peaslee, whom he married April 23, 1938, died May 17, 2003.
He leaves a daughter, Linda M. Astore of Pittsfield; two sons, Robert E. Beals of Cheshire and William J. Beals of Yellville, Ark; a brother, Ernest W. Beals of Dalton; a sister, Catherine B. Ackley of Williamstown; 16 grandchildren, and 41 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Earl A. Beals, 89, of Pittsfield, who died Jan. 28, 2004, will be Monday at 11 at Morningside Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Linda Shaw, pastor.
Burial will follow in Main Street Cemetery, Dalton. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 8 at the DERY FUNERAL HOME, Pittsfield. Mr. Beals enjoyed his family. He leaves his son-in-law, Armand Astore, and his daughter-in-law, Carolyn Beals.
He was predeceased by a brother, William Beals, and two sisters, Abie Oudin and Anna Cole, and a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Beals. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to Morningside Baptist Church, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
