Doris Irene Blais, 85, formerly of 27 Paisley Terrace died Saturday at Berkshire Place, where she had resided since April 1998.
Born in Hay Springs, Neb., on April 4, 1918, daughter of Roma and Grace Guthrie Reno, she was a 1936 graduate of Hay Springs High School.
She earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Nebraska.
She moved to Pittsfield in 1946.
A decorated Army Nurse Corps veteran of World War II, she served from 1941 until 1946 as a member of the 208th General Hospital unit, and was among the first to go on active duty in Iceland.
Mrs. Blais was employed as a charge nurse for the former Edgecombe Nursing Home in Lenox, retiring in the 1980s.
Mrs. Blains also had worked for other area institutions during her 40-year career as a registered nurse.
At one time, she was a member of Notre Dame Church.
She enjoyed needlepoint.
Her husband, Dr. Wilfred A. Blais, chief of staff of the former St. Luke's Hospital, whom she married Nov. 5, 1945, died May 8, 1997.
She leaves several nieces and nephews.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services and burial for Doris I. Blais, who died Jan. 24, 2004, will be held at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115 or in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, which is handling the arrangements.
