Daniel William "Big Bill" Fallon Sr

Daniel William "Big Bill" Fallon Sr., 68, of 32 Old Stockbridge Road died Thursday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center, where he had been a patient for two weeks.

Born in Pittsfield on July 9, 1935, son of Daniel E. and Minnie Tatro Fallon, he was a lifelong resident of Lenox, attended local schools and was a 1954 graduate of the former Lenox High School, where he played in the school band and was a standout first baseman on the baseball team.

He later attended the Boston Conservatory of Music.

Mr. Fallon served in the Army from 1956 to 1957 and spent much of that time in the Army Band in Washington, where he played tuba in the brass section along with jazz great Wayne Shorter.

He was employed for several years at Rising Paper Co. in Housatonic as a machine tender, and retired in 1992. For many years he worked part time at the former Berkshire Truck Plaza in West Stockbridge and at the former Diesel Dan's in Lee.

He also had worked in Pittsfield for the Petricca Construction Co., and had driven for the Yellow Cab Co. for 20 years.

An accomplished musician, he played in the Eagles Band in Pittsfield at various times over the years, starting at the age of 14. He was a fan of country music, the New York Yankees and professional wrestling.

He leaves one son, Daniel W. Fallon Jr. of Pittsfield; two daughters, Elizabeth Fiscella of Pittsfield and Mary Anderson of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one sister, Marjorie Cummings of Lee, and two grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Daniel W. Fallon will be Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 9 from the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Mary's Church in Lee, concelebrated by the Rev. Gary M. Dailey, pastor, and the Rev. Tony Cullen, pastoral assistant at St. Mary's.

Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 5 to 8. Mr. Fallon is also survived by his grandchildren, Joshua and Jennifer Anderson of Daytona Beach; his nieces, Marcia Scaramelli of Bedford and Sandra Cummings of Lee; his son-in-law, Thomas A. Fiscella of Pittsfield, many relatives and his many, many friends.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in his memory to the Lenox Police Association in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
