Ralph Lee "Bud" Rood, 70, of 123 Pine St. died Saturday morning at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in Dalton on Sept. 13, 1933, son of Anna Connelly Rood of Dalton and the late Ralph Polidoro, he was a 1951 graduate of the former Dalton High School.
He was raised by his stepfather, the late Gerald V. Rood Sr., from the age of 4 and changed his name to Rood at the age of 17.
He also resided in Pittsfield, and returned to Dalton 23 years ago.
He served in the Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Rood owned and operated Berkshire County Siding in Dalton for 27 years, retiring in 1992. From 1960 to 1970, he owned the former Atlantic Esso Station at Allendale in Pittsfield. Before that, he worked at Byron Weston Paper Co.
He was a member of Benjamin F. Sullivan Post 155 American Legion and the Berkshire County Deputy Sheriffs' Association.
He enjoyed boxing and wrestling and, in his younger years, water skiing. He also enjoyed traveling to Alford, Fla.
He and his wife, the former Marilyn E. Call, were married Aug. 27, 1977, in Maryland.
Besides his wife and mother, he leaves two sisters, June Belcher and Donna Davis, both of Dalton.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Ralph L. "Bud" Rood, who died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, will be conducted tomorrow, Jan. 26, at 10 at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton by the Rev. Warren Scammon.
Burial will be at a later date in Ashuelot Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dalton Ambulance and Rescue in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main St., Dalton.
He was predeceased by his stepfather, Gerald V. Rood Sr., his brother, Gerald V. Rood Jr., and a sister, Judith Phoenix.
