George C. Besaw

George C. Besaw, 85, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Lenox, died Tuesday in the Sarasota Hospice House in Sarasota.
Born in Huntington on Oct. 16, 1918, son of George W. and Hazel Jones Besaw, he graduated from the former Huntington High School.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a lieutenant.
Mr. Besaw was an insurance salesman for John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Pittsfield for 32 years, retiring 25 years ago.
He moved to Florida full time about six years ago, residing first in Melbourne and relocating to Sarasota in August 2002.
An outdoorsman, Mr. Besaw hunted and fished. He also raised and trained beagles.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, the former Madeline Earle; a son, Gary Besaw of Carmel, Ind.; a daughter, Susan Walsh of Sarasota; a sister, Eunice Sudentas of Westfield, and a granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at TOALE BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME in Sarasota, Fla. Interment will be at a later date in Lee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, 369 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
Mr. Besaw also leaves his beloved granddaughter, Kerry Ann Besaw of Indianapolis, Ind.
