Michael Casmir "Mickey" Pasterczyk

Michael Casmir "Mickey" Pasterczyk, 79, of 15 Pond St. died Tuesday evening at Berkshire Medical Center after a short illness.
Born in Newark, N.J., on Nov. 25, 1924, son of John and Katherine Kochut Pasterczyk, he attended St. Casmir's Polish School there.
He moved to Pittsfield in 1939 and attended local schools.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a gunner's mate, third class.
Mr. Pasterczyk was employed as an iron worker for Iron Workers Local 12 of Albany, N.Y., for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He worked for various contractors throughout New England.
He was a communicant of Holy Family Church.
He was a member of the board of directors of the Polish Community Club, where he was a bartender until two months ago.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, sports and traveling to Poland and wintering in Florida.
He was a member of American Legion Post 68 in Pittsfield. In his younger years, he was an amateur boxer with the late Frank Martin and was known as the "Berkshire Bomber."
He leaves four daughters, Katherine M. Hamling of Springfield, Sharon L. Furey of West Palm Beach, Fla., Carol A. McCabe and Susan M. Pasterczyk, both of Pittsfield; a sister, Jennie J. Pasterczyk of Pittsfield, with whom he made his home; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Michael Casmir "Mickey" Pasterczyk, 79, who died Jan. 20, 2004, will be Friday at 8:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at Holy Family Church by the Rev. Michael J. Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Thursday, from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association, both in care of the funeral home.
Mr. Pasterczyk is lovingly survived by his adored grandchildren, Brian Michael Pasterczyk and Ashley M. Southard, and by his two great-grandchildren, Brian Michael Pasterczyk Jr. and Andrew J. Pasterczyk. Also survived by son-in-law, Louis T. McCabe, and by many family members in Poland.
