Anna E. Howe

Anna E. Howe, 97, of 58 Flansburg Ave. died Tuesday morning at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 2, 1906, daughter of Robert and Margaret Ball Howe, she moved to Dalton at age 9 and was a 1923 graduate of the former Dalton High School, and a 1924 graduate of the former Berkshire Business College.
Miss Howe was employed by the Dalton School Department for 52 years, retiring in 1976. She was secretary to eight superintendents, and watched the department grow from 30 teachers to 350 by the time she retired.
She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church 20th Century Club.
She was a charter member of the Massachusetts Association of School Secretaries, a member of the Central Berkshire Regional Teachers Association, the Dalton Ladies' Auxiliary, the Order of Eastern Star and the Papertown Pacers.
She leaves several nieces and nephews, including William Daniels Jr. and Barbara Daniels, and James Kearns Daniels of Dalton, who had been her caregivers for the past five years.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Anna E. Howe will be conducted Saturday at 10 at Grace Episcopal Church in Dalton by the Rev. Mary F. Schreiber, missioner.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. Burial will follow in Main Street Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Episcopal Church or to the Central Berkshire Regional School District in care of the funeral home, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
