Eileen V. Berry

Eileen V. Berry, 80, of 600 Main St. died Tuesday at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield.

Born in Pittsfield on June 25, 1923, daughter of James and Julia Dineen Berry, she was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. She also attended the former Berkshire Business College, the former Pittsfield Secretarial School, and the American Institute of Banking and the Graduate School for Financial Studies.

She resided at 98 Essex St. in Pittsfield before moving to Dalton several years ago.

Ms. Berry was employed for 27 years with the former City Savings Bank, now Legacy Bank, as an assistant to the controller. She retired in 1986. She was founding editor of the bank's internal newspaper, On-Line, in 1967. She edited and wrote articles for each edition until her retirement.

She was a member and officer of Savings Bank Women of Massachusetts, past president of the board of governors of the Berkshire Hills Chapter of AIB, and secretary of the City Savings Bank Employees Association.

A member of the Pittsfield Town Players, she starred in a variety of plays and productions and received a best actress award for her lead role in "Cactus Flower."

She also worked behind the scenes on props, costumes and assisting the director. She also did stock work in Maine.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.

She enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe, the West Indies, South America, Tahiti and the Philippines. She gave slide lectures on the Virgin Islands throughout Berkshire County and organized a guided tour there.

She was the recipient of the St. Croix Goodwill Ambassador Award for her sustained interest and promotion of St. Croix.

She leaves several cousins.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Eileen V. Berry, age 80, died Jan. 13, 2004. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Molly. The funeral will be Saturday at 8:15 from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at St. Joseph's Church by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph's Church Improvement Fund or to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
