Edmund James Mastrovito

Edmund James Mastrovito, 94, formerly of 11 Delaware Ave. died Friday at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided since Feb. 12, 2001.

Born in Newport, R.I., on Sept. 6, 1909, son of Michele and Nicolina Baccari Mastrovito, he was a 1927 graduate of Rogers High School there, and a 1929 graduate of Bryant College in Providence, R.I.

He moved to Pittsfield in 1946.

A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he served for three years and was honorably discharged in 1945 as a technical sergeant, third class.

Mr. Mastrovito was the manager of Public Finance Co. for 30 years, retiring June 1, 1968.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a past president of its Holy Name Society.

He was a charter member and past president and treasurer of the Sringside Park Greenhouse Group, and a member of the Pembury Bridge and Kiwanis clubs and American Legion Post 68.

He also was past president of the Pittsfield Lenders' Exchange, a life member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Guild of Our Lady of Ransom.

His wife, the former Catherine C. Connor, whom he married Sept. 2, 1942, died Oct. 8, 1988.

He leaves his caregivers, the Signor family of Pittsfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Edmund J. Mastrovito, 94, who died Jan. 16, 2004, will be Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 1:30 in the chapel of St. Columba's Cemetery, 465 Brown's Lane, Middletown, R.I. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Foundation in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, which is handling arrangements.

Mr. Mastrovito is survived by a nephew, James M. Mastrovito; a niece, Sandra Levesque, and by his caregivers and friends, Marjorie, Michael, Robert, Michael, Keith, Timothy and Steven Signor.
