Robert Thomas "Red" Langsdale

Robert Thomas "Red" Langsdale, 73, of 56 Partridge Road died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsburgh on April 2, 1930, son of Thomas Langsdale and John and Grace Stansbury Langsdale Fedorchak, he was a graduate of South Hills High School in Pittsburgh, where he was on the basketball team.

He moved to Pittsfield in 1976.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Langsdale was general manager of the former Kmart store from 1976 until retiring in 1988.

He had been employed by Kmart's parent company, S.S. Kresge Co., since 1959.

He enjoyed gardening and listening to jazz.

He leaves his wife, the former Arvilla Weaver, whom he married in Michigan on March 2, 1958.

Besides his wife, he leaves his daughter, Rae E. Langsdale of Dalton; two sons, Edward J. Langsdale of Kennebunkport, Maine, and Robert J. Langsdale of Pittsfield; two brothers, John Fedorchak of Midland, Pa., and Edward Fedorchak of Pittsburgh, and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Robert T. "Red" Langsdale, 73, who died Jan. 17, 2004, will be Wednesday at 2 at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Berkshire County Jimmy Fund in care of the funeral home.

Mr. Langsdale is lovingly survived by his three adored grandchildren, Caitlin Burt, and Tess and Cameron Langsdale. He was predeceased by a brother, Nicholas Fedorchak.
