Lois Janette McRell, 89, of Yarmouth Port, formerly of Reading, died Sunday at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the sister of Muriel Jenks of Pittsfield.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 21, 1914, daughter of George A. and Lena Landgraf Denison, she was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
She also graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in history.
She lived in Reading for 33 years before moving to Harwich in 1978. She and her husband moved to Yarmouth Port in the mid-1990s.
While in Reading, she was a teacher's aide at the Killam School for three years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and a member of its Couples Club. She was a den mother with the Cub Scouts for five years and a member of the Reading Women's Club.
While on Cape Cod, she was a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Harwich and its Couples Club.
When she moved to Yarmouth Port, she was a member of the Dennis Union Church.
She was active in the Association for the Preservation of Cape Cod, the Eastham Hiking Club for over 15 years, and the Audubon Society.
She was a member of the Yarmouth Port Library, the Friends of the Brooks Free Library and the Yarmouth Council on Aging.
She leaves her husband of 65 years, H. Foster McRell.
Besides her husband and sister, she leaves two sons, Denison F. McRell of Webester, N.Y., and Jeremy B. McRell of Sutton, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
