Benjamin "Ben" Stanley Chelstowski

Benjamin "Ben" Stanley Chelstowski, 81, of 48 Root Place died Tuesday afternoon at home.

Born in Pittsfield on June 30, 1922, son of Felix and Mary Nosal Chelstowski, he attended local schools.

A World War II veteran, he served in the Army from Dec. 9, 1942, to Nov. 18, 1945, assigned to Company D of the 109th Medical Battalion.

Mr. Chelstowski was employed as a motor repairman with the relations and utilities department at the former GE in Pittsfield for 43 years, retiring in 1985.

He was a communicant of Holy Family Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs, and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448.

He and his wife, the former Betty Koch, were married Nov. 19, 1966.

Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Gary B. Chelstowski of Lanesboro, and Edward L. and Paul A. Chelstowski, both of Pittsfield; a brother, John Chelski of Warren, Mich.; three sisters, HelynCarlon, JoAnne Chelstowski and Marsha Forrest, all of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Mr. Chelstowski will be held Saturday at 8:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Chelstowski may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.

Benjamin "Ben" Stanley Chelstowski, who died Tuesday, Dec. 30, leaves his four grandchildren, Kelly VanBramer of Pittsfield, True Chelstowski of Lanesboro, Shaun Chelstowski of Pittsfield, and Randy Chelstowski of Pittsfield; three great-grandchildren, Cameron Chelstowski, Shaun Chelstowski and Olivia VanBramer, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Edward Chelstowski.
