Robert Milton "Pop" Ludbrook, 79, of 49 Wealthy Ave. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., on May 7, 1924, son of Harry and Viola Sprague Ludbrook, he attended Pittsfield schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Company F, 127th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Division, "The Red Arrow." He served more than two years in the South Pacific and was in battles in New Guinea, the Southern Philippines and Luzon. He received a Purple Heart and earned the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Ludbrook was employed by the former Eaton Paper Co. in the stockroom for 12 1/2 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a baker at the former Borgo's Bakery for more than 30 years, and at one time had been a baker at the former Scelsi's Bakery.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 448, for more than 50 years.
He and his wife, the former Louise Bigelow, celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary Sept. 10. They were married in Notre Dame Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Kathleen A. Lander of Pittsfield; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Robert Milton "Pop" Ludbrook, who died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 10 at DERY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire County Jimmy Fund in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
He also leaves his loving grandchildren, John and Jamie Lander and Renee and Randy Wendling; his great-grandchildren, Marcus and Cole Brady Lander; his son-in-law, John M. Lander; his sisters-in-law, Veronica Martin and Margaret Pettibone; his brothers-in-law, Daniel and John Bigelow; his many nieces and nephews, especially Jean and Donald Bolio and Betty Lou Thayer, and his many grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Alan Ludbrook.
