Ruth E. Thompson Sondrini

Ruth E. Thompson Sondrini, 71, of 126 Winesap Road died Wednesday at home.

Born in Pittsfield on July 14, 1932, daughter of Charles and Ethel Murray Thompson, she was educated in local schools and was a 1950 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

She then graduated from the former St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1953.

Primarily a private-duty nurse, she was most recently employed as school nurse at Miss Hall's School for 11 years, retiring in 1997.

A communicant of Sacred Heart Church, she served on the communion and Christian doctrine board for many years. For 10 years, she had served with the adult faith educational program and was part of the core group of the faith-sharing community there.

She was also a member of the St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association.

Her husband, Rudolph D. Sondrini, whom she married on Nov. 6, 1954, died Feb. 5, 1993.

She leaves two sons, Michael D. Sondrini and Stephen J. Sondrini, both of Dalton; two daughters, Susan Garrity of Pittsfield and Mary Jo Sondrini of Goshen; three brothers, Charles F. Thompson of Pittsfield, William E. Thompson of Dalton and John L. Thompson of Palm Beach, Fla., and nine grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Ruth E. Thompson Sondrini, 71, died Dec. 24, 2003. In honoring their mother's wishes, her children will not be having calling hours. The celebration of her life will begin at 11 on Monday with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor, and the Rev. C.J. Waitekus, pastor of St. Ann's Church in Lenox.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Continuing the celebration of her life, following the committal service, her children request that family and friends gather with them at the Itam Lodge. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Sondrini requested that acts of kindness and mercy be done in her memory.

She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Dominick, Matthew, David, Abigail, Nicholas, Zachary, and Katelyn Sondrini, Daniel Garrity and Vincent DiGiacomo; her daughters-in-law, Karen and Bonnie Sondrini, and Terry DiGiacomo; and her son-in-law, J.A. Garrity.

She was predeceased by a brother, James B. Thompson, who died Dec. 26, 1998. DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
