Madeline P. Wesley Nonken

Madeline P. Wesley Nonken, 93, died Wednesday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center.
Born in Pittsfield on April 19, 1910, daughter of Matthew H. and Etta May Akers Powell, she was a 1928 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
She had been employed as a secretary in the high voltage laboratory at GE until her retirement in 1970.
Mrs. Nonken was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lenox (formerly Trinity United Methodist Church of Pittsfield), where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also the director of the children's choir, a member of the annual conference, president of the Women's Society and president of the Wesleyan Circle. She also directed the chancel choir of the church for more than 40 years, retiring in 1991.
She volunteered her time to the Red Cross, and on Sept. 15, 1989, received the Donald G. Butler Service Award for distinguished volunteer service.
She was also a past president of the P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter F.
Her first husband, Harold A. Wesley, whom she married Dec. 14, 1935, died Dec. 20, 1947.
She married Gordon C. Nonken on May 24, 1969. He died June 15, 1996.
She leaves two sons, Neil H. Wesley of Pittsfield and William M. Wesley of Petersburgh, N.Y.; three daughters, Betty A. Clemons and Judith L. Clary, both of Pittsfield, and Marian A. Burzimati of Seffner, Fla.; two stepsons, Howard R. Nonken of San Clemente, Calif., and Gerald M. Nonken of Canton, Conn.; 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Mrs. Madeline P. Nonken will be Monday at 10 at the United Methodist Church in Lenox, with the Rev. Eric Depee officiating. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME.
Burial will follow in the Pittsfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to either the United Methodist Church of Lenox or to the American Red Cross, in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield MA 01201.
She was predeceased by a stepson, Ronald M. Nonken, who died March 30, 2003.
