Warren Wayne Root

Warren Wayne Root, 75, of Normandie Ridge retirement community, York, Pa., died Monday evening at home.

Born in Pittsfield on April 14, 1928, son of Wilfred H. and Elsie I. Shepherd Root, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. He earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1952.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Root had been employed as a design engineer with Borg Warner Corp. in Pennsylvania, retiring in 1982 with 30 years of service.

He was a member of Christ's American Baptist Church in Spring Grove, Pa., and was active on its Property and Building Committee.

He was a member of the 25-year Continuous Service Club at Borg Warner, the Springettsbury Fire Department, the American Baptist Men of Pennsylvania and Delaware and the American Legion Post 945.

He and his wife, the former Dorothy Mae Thompson, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary June 7.

Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Allen C. Root of Manchester, Pa., and Brian R. Root and Martin E. Root, both of York; a brother, John Russell Root of Tallmadge, Ohio, two grandchildren and a step-granddaughter. He was predeceased by two daughters, Lorraine M. Root and Marian L. Root.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Memorial Service for Warren Wayne Root will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 27, at 11 at Christ's American Baptist Church, 730 Menges Mill Road, Spring Grove, Pa., by the Rev. Paul Gorog, executive director of the York Rescue Mission.

Private burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be performed by the York County Veteran Honor Guard. Visiting hours will be Friday, Dec. 26, from 6 to 8 at the church.
