Beatrice J. "Shannie" Haswell

Beatrice J. "Shannie" Haswell, 78, of 88 Greenrich St. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Minneapolis, on Jan. 6, 1925, daughter of David L. and Pauline Krob Shane, shewas a 1943 graduate of Somerville High School. She also graduated from the former Bishop Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield as part of the Nursing Cadet Corps.

Later in life, she graduated from the Wilton School of Cake Decorating in Chicago.

A registered nurse, she had been employed by Berkshire Medical Center, the former Pittsfield General Hospital and the former Hillcrest Hospital, retiring in 1970. From 1971 to 1980, she worked at Berkshire Life in the microfiche department.

From 1971 to 1981, she and her sister owned and operated Exquisite Cakes, a cake-baking and decorating business.

Mrs. Haswell was a member of the Morningside Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking and sewing.

She and her husband, Albert K. Haswell, were married Oct. 16, 1948.

Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Kurt K. Haswell of Cheshire; a daughter, Lark Hiser of Dalton, and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Beatrice J. Haswell will be Saturday at 11 at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield with the Rev. Linda Shaw, pastor of the Morningside Baptist Church, officiating. Following cremation, burial will be in the Hoosic Cemetery in Hoosic, N.Y.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 to 11 at the funeral home. Among survivors are her beloved grandchildren, Bret and Cort Hiser and Caitlin Haswell; her son-in-law, Bruce Hiser; and her daughter-in-law, Sharon Huska Haswell. Two brothers, Charles Shane and Albert Shane, and a sister, Myrtle Havener, predeceased her.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Congestive Heart Failure Association in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
