Gladys Dana

Gladys Dana, 82, of Main Street, Marion, and Lenox died Tuesday at Tobey Hospital in Wareham.

Born in Fitchburg on Oct. 13, 1921, daughter of Samuel E.M. and Gladys Thomas Crocker, she attended Beaver Country Day School in Brookline and St. Timothy's School in Maryland.

She also studied at Radcliffe College in Cambridge.

She was athletics director at Berkshire Country Day School in Lenox for many years. She was also a physical fitness instructor with Bonnie Pruden Inc. in Stockbridge.

She was a longtime member of the Chilton Club in Boston, The Kittansett Club in Marion and the Stockbridge Golf Club.

She was also an accomplished figure skater and golfer.

In recent years, she studied watercolor under different artists and exhibited at the Marion Art Center and the Arnold Arboretum in Brookline.

Her husband, David T. Dana Jr., is deceased.

She leaves two sons, J. Loring Swasey Jr. of New York City and Malcolm Crocker Swasey of Manchester-by-the Sea; three daughters, Gladys Lovering Perkins of West Acton, Carol Swasey Moulton of Venice, Fla., and Mary Potter See of Rochester; a brother, Quentin Crocker of Echternach, Luxembourg; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Memorial Service for Gladys Crocker Dana will be Monday, Dec. 22, at 11 at St. Gabriel's Church in Marion.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may remember Mrs. Dana through contributions to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, ATTEN: Communications Dept., 6931 Arlington Road, Bethesda, MD 20814 or Tobey Hospital, 43 High St., Wareham, MA 02571 or Lenox Library Association, 18 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240 or Recording for the Blind, 20 Roszel Road, Princeton, NJ 08540. She was a person of endless determination and will and her warm and energetic spirit touched all who knew her.
