Jean Barbara Surowiec, 83, of 48 Madison Ave. died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on May 11, 1920, daughter of Stanislaw and Stephanie Kuzia Kobus, she attended schools in Easthampton and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and the former Berkshire Business College.
Mrs. Surowiec was employed as a secretary to the general foreman in the GE distribution transformer department from 1937 to 1962.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and was interested in politics.
Her husband, Venus L. "Buck" Surowiec, whom she married June 14, 1952, died March 25.
She leaves several nieces and nephews.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Jean Barbara Surowiec, who died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, will be Monday, Dec. 15, at 8:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Joseph's church celebrated by the Rev. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Surowiec may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St.
Survivors include her sisters-in-law, Viola Surowiec and Eleanor Kobus, both of Pittsfield, and Norma Kobus of Lenox; two nephews, Edmund Kobus Jr. of Dalton and Raymond Kinsella of Pittsfield, and five nieces, Linda Reardon of Lenox, JoAnn Bourquard of Agawam, Debra Kobus of St. George, Vt., Jeanne Cianfaglione of West Hartford, Conn., and Diane Pero of Pittsfield.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Edmund and Stanley Kobus; two sisters, Wanda Bourquard and Agnes Kolbusz, and a nephew, Edwin Kinsella.
