Gladys Augusta Daigle, 84, of 53 Oak St. died yesterday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield, where she had resided since September.
Born in Nassau, N.Y., on April 14, 1919, daughter of Charles and Alicia VanSlyck Calkins, she attended schools in Dalton and was a graduate of the former Dalton High School.
She had been employed as a clerk and dispatcher at R.M. O'Connell Co. for 10 years, retiring in 1983.
Mrs. Daigle was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church.
Her husband, Gaston J. "Gus" Daigle, whom she married June 12, 1943, died May 2, 1987.
She leaves two daughters, Marilyn L. Lampron of Lenox and Kathleen A. Stowers of Dalton; two brothers, Charles A. Calkins of Ellicott, Md., and Everett R. Calkins of Bradenton, Fla.; a sister, Viola L. Jacobs of Windsor, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Gladys A. Daigle, 84, who died Dec. 5, 2003, will be Tuesday at 9:15 from the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Agnes Church, celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield.
Burial will be in Ashuelot Cemetery, Dalton. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dalton Council on Aging in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Daigle is also lovingly survived by her adored four grandchildren, Richard Lampron Jr., Michael Stowers, Annemarie Lampron and Kimberlee Parker; also by her three great-grandchildren, Kaycie, Ryan and Brady Parker.
She is also survived by her devoted sister-in-law, Claire Mooney of Lenox, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Leslie Calkins.
