Charles R. "Chuck" Volk

Charles R. "Chuck" Volk, 75, of 62 Spadina Parkway died at Berkshire Medical Center yesterday.

Born in Pittsfield on May 23, 1928, the son of Ralph L. and Dorothy Hodecker Volk, he was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

Dr. Volk enlisted in the Marines for two years and then went to the University of Michigan, graduating in 1952. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1955 with a doctorate in dental sciences.

He had his own dental practice in Pittsfield from 1955 to 1996.

Dr. Volk was an active member of Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served on the Finance Committee and most of the other committees and boards of the church.

He was a Boy Scout leader for the church's Troop 10 and also a Cub master for the church's Cub Scout program.

Dr. Volk enjoyed playing croquet at the Lenox Croquet Club. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Pittsfield, a life member of both the American Dental Association and Massachusetts Dental Society.

He played tennis, built floats for the Halloween Parade and enjoyed painting landscapes in oils and gardening.

He leaves his wife, the former Dorris Lutz, whom he married Sept. 13, 1953. He is also survived by three sons, Randall C. Volk of Hinesburg, Vt., Marc S. Volk of Windsor and Army Sgt. 1st Class Eric C. Volk, stationed in Germany; two daughters, Paula J. Teckelsen of Chicopee and Wendy L. Lane of Rochester, N.Y.; a sister, Pauline Adreasen of Livingston, N.J.; a brother, Leonard Volk of Norfolk, Va., and 11 grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Dr. Charles R. "Chuck" Volk will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield with the Rev. Robert Miller, pastor of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Savior in South Hadley, officiating.

Following cremation, burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Sunday from 2 to 5. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home at 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
