Everett Ross Volin

Everett Ross Volin, 83, a resident of Ocean View Retirement Community in Falmouth, Maine, formerly of Pittsfield and Hinsdale, died yesterday.
Born June 29, 1920, in Pittsfield, son of Herbert A. and Mary R. Volin, he attended Pittsfield schools and was a 1942 graduate of Colgate University, where he majored in geology.
During World War II, Mr. Volin served in the Philippines as an officer in a heavy artillery battalion in the Luzon campaign.
After leaving the military in 1956, he went to work for the New York Telephone Co., where he served for 31 years in Manhattan. His positions included division traffic superintendent, general private brand exchange superintendent and an assignment for two years at AT&T as general toll supervisor. Fifteen years before his retirement, he served as general personnel supervisor for all employment at New York Telephone for Manhattan, Bronx, Westchester and Long Island.
He served the Boy Scouts of America, was a town councilor in Haworth, N.J., and chairman of the board for the Central Bergen (N.J.) Chapter of the American Red Cross.
In 1942, he married the former Jane C. Plate of Yonkers, N.Y. During their 61 years of marriage, they lived in Croton and Orangeburg, N.Y., and Dumont, N.J., and Haworth. After retiring from New York Telephone in 1977, they moved to Hinsdale, where they built a retirement home.
They moved to Maine in 1993.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, David R. Volin of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Peter R. Volin of Peachtree City, Ga., and Henry D. Volin of Falmouth, Maine; a daughter, Laura V. Cullen of Needham, and seven grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Pittsfield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Oceanview Residents Assistance Fund in care of Oceanview at Falmouth, 20 Blueberry Lane, Falmouth, ME 04105.
