Benjamin R. Pastore, 85, of 29 Sunnyside Drive died Monday at home.
Born in Claremont, N.H., on Feb. 25, 1918, son of Joseph and Rose Maria Stabile Pastore, he was a 1936 graduate of Stevens High School in Claremont and a 1940 graduate of the GE apprentice program.
He resided in Oakland, Calif., for two years and moved to Dalton 49 years ago.
Mr. Pastore was employed with GE in Pittsfield for nearly 42 years. He was supervisor of manufacturing engineering in the high-voltage bushing department when he retired in 1980. He also had been supervisor of manufacturing methods for the power transformer internal components subsection.
Prior to that, he was a manufacturing methods specialist and participated in plans for a new power transformer plant in Rome, Ga. From 1943 to 1945, he had been a production engineer for Production Engineering Co. in Berkeley, Calif., then for Friden Calculating Machine Co. in San Leandro, Calif.
He was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs, the GE Athletic Association and the Wahconah Country Club, where he belonged to the Dilly Boy League.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, bowling and reading.
He leaves his wife, the former Lucille M. Curry, whom he married Jan. 30, 1939, at St. Mary's Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Carole A. Pastore of Medford; three sisters, Jane Springer of Windsor, Vt., Mary Hart and Carmelle Paton, both of Claremont; a grandson, and two stepgrandchildren. A son, William J. Pastore, died in 2000, and another daughter, Kathleen E. Pastore-Reyburn, died in 2002.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Benjamin R. Pastore, who died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, will be Friday, Nov. 28, at 10:30 from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 at St. Agnes' Church by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 9 to 10:30 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
Mr. Pastore was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Pastore and Jerry Pastore, and two sisters, Elena Pastore and Josephine Gaydo. He leaves his grandson, Anthony Joseph Pastore of Colonie, N.Y., two stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.
