William Alexander Volin Sr

William Alexander Volin Sr., 85, of One Marwood Road, Worcester, died Wednesday at Worcester Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 6, 1918, son of Alexander E. and Mabel Curtin Volin, he was a 1936 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He graduated from Holy Cross College in 1940 and Temple School of Chiropody in Philadelphia in 1949.
A veteran of World War II, he served four years in England, North Africa and Italy.
He was employed as an assistant vice president at Home Federal Savings until his retirement in 1984.
He also worked at Worcester Supply Co. for 18 years. Prior to this, he practiced podiatry in Franklin, N.H., and Pittsfield before moving to Worcester in 1953.
Mr. Volin was a member of the Holy Cross Club of Greater Worcester, the Men's Club of Christ the King Church, and the Purple Knights.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, the former Mary Farrell; a son, William A. Volin Jr. of Spencer; two daughters, Maryliz O'Brien of Worcester and Regina Atchue of Grafton; six grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for William A. Volin will be Saturday from the CALLAHAN BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester, at 10 in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St., Worcester. Calling hours are today, Friday, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Burial will be Monday at 11 in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Abby's House Inc., 52 High St., or to Notre Dame Academy, 425 Salisbury St., Worcester.
