John Rocca

John Rocca, 66, of 31 Pacific St. died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 8, 1936, son of Michael and Angelina Galiano Rocca, he was a 1955 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

He also graduated from Eastam Bible Institute and was a 1960 graduate of Pinecrest Bible College, now Valley Forge Christian College, in Pennsylvania.

He was a bus driver for the Pittsfield Public Schools for 20 years, retiring in 1992.

He was also a self-employed chef and caterer.

A member of Christian Assembly Church, Mr. Rocca served as choir director for 25 years, church soloist, deacon and worship leader.

He enjoyed music and singing, gardening, deep-sea fishing and aquariums.

He and his wife, the former Shirley Ann Dawes, were married Oct. 18, 1958.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Robert J. Rocca of Payson, Ariz.; a daughter, Cynthia L. Rocca of Richmond; five brothers, William Rocca and Russell Rocca, both of Pittsfield, George Rocca of Hinsdale, Robert Rocca of Dalton and Alfred Rocca of Syracuse, N.Y., four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- John Rocca, who died Wednesday, Nov. 19, also leaves his daughter-in-law, Kimberly Rocca; his grandson, Brandon T. Rocca, his three granddaughters, Angela M. Rocca, Amanda L. Rocca and Victoria E. Rocca; his great-grandson, Julian A. Rocca, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Francis Rocca, Joseph Rocca and Sam Rocca, and a sister, Anna Rocca. Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 22, at 1 at Christian Assembly Church, where Mr. Rocca was a dedicated member, serving as choir director for 25 years, church soloist, deacon and worship leader. "He gave his all to his church."

Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Friday, from 3 to 7 at the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
