Augusta A. Jensen, 80, of 15 Judith Drive died Sunday at home.
Born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., on May 7, 1923, daughter of Ernest and Marie Hoyer Zeiller, she graduated from high school in New York City.
She later resided in Schenectady, N.Y., and moved to Dalton in 1967.
Mrs. Jensen had been employed as a teacher's aide for many years, first in Schenectady, and later in the Central Berkshire School District, working at Kittredge School in Hinsdale and Craneville School in Dalton. She retired in 1985.
She was an active member of Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pittsfield, serving on the Altar Guild and church council, and maintaining the baptismal roll. She also was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent of the church's vacation school.
The church recently recognized her for her many years of service to the church and to God.
She and her husband, Poul O. Jensen were married Nov. 6, 1943.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Paul Jensen of Lynnfield and John Jensen of Waretown, N.J.; two daughters, Ingrid Rinard of Chehalis, Wash., and Anna Marie Wescott of Lee; a brother, Lewis Zeiller of Fort Worth, Texas, and six grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Augusta A. Jensen, who died Nov. 16, 2003, will be conducted Saturday at 11 at Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Peter Boehringer, pastor. Cremation will follow. Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 to 11 in the church parlor.
The omission of flowers is requested. BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226, is in charge of arrangements. Augusta was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a source of energy and inspiration for all who came in contact with her.
She set the standard for love and caring commitments, not just for her family but also for other friends, while herself battling cancer for over 10 years. As beautiful inside as outside, her zest for life will be surely missed by everyone who knew her. Augusta will live on in people's hearts and minds forever.
