Cynthia E. "Cy" Mattoon

Cynthia E. "Cy" Mattoon, 87, of 62 Burbank St. died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center shortly after being admitted.

Born in Pittsfield on June 25, 1916, daughter of Harold and Edith Woodward Barnes, she was a 1934 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

She also graduated from Miss Pharmers Finishing School in Boston.

Mrs. Mattoon was employed as a supervisor at the former Big N department store for 15 years, retiring in 1978. She also had worked as a waitress at the Country Club of Pittsfield for five years.

She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church.

An accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed arts and crafts and was an avid reader.

Her husband, Raymond G. Mattoon, died March 26, 1958.

She leaves her longtime companion, Charles J. Shea; a son, John A. Mattoon of Canaan, N.Y., nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Another son, Daniel Mattoon, died in 1957 and a daughter, Ann W. Macchi, died in 1988.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Cynthia E. "Cy" Mattoon died in Pittsfield on Monday, Nov. 17, 2003. Beloved mother-in-law to Donna Mattoon. The funeral will be conducted tomorrow, Nov. 20, at 1 at DWYER FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Lee Smith, chaplain at Berkshire Medical Center.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Nov. 19, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home, 776 North St. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Athenaeum in care of the funeral home. She was predeceased by a brother, John A. Barnes, who died in 1980.
