Kathryn F. Olsted

Kathryn F. Olsted, 55, of 32 Flansburg Ave. died Saturday at home of cancer.

She was a member of the town's Waste Management and Steering committees, and the Dalton Business Association, where she was involved in the annual "Light Up the Holiday" festivities.

Born in Pittsfield on March 3, 1948, daughter of the late Edward and Clare Croughwell Mahoney, she was a 1966 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School.

At the time of her death, she was manager of the Dalton branch of the Pittsfield Co-op Bank, where she also served as assistant treasurer. She had worked for the bank for 28 years. Before that, she was employed by the former Pittsfield National Bank.

She was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church, where she served on the finance committee.

She was a group leader and board member of the Dalton Campfire organization and was active with Conroy Children's Fund, Dalton First Congregational Church Sunday lunch program, the Berkshire United Way, Central Berkshire United Way Drive, the annual Dalton Rotary Follies and other CRA and town activities.

Mrs. Olsted was a member and past president of the Dalton Rotary Club, where she was the recipient of the "Honor Above Self Award," and was recognized by Rotary International as a Paul Harris Fellow.

She enjoyed traveling and going to Foxwoods.

She and her husband, Richard D. Olsted, celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary Nov. 9.

Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Edward Daniel Olsted of Shawnee, Kan.; a daughter, Rebecca L. Pickard of Pittsfield; two brothers, John Mahoney of Pittsfield and Robert Fogarty of Oxford, and two grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Kathryn F. "Kathy" Olsted, who died Nov. 15, will be Wednesday at 9:15 from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Agnes' Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 8. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Conroy Children's Fund, HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the Dalton Ambulance & Rescue Fund in care of the funeral home, 890 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.

She leaves her grandchildren, Aubrey Pickard and Aiden Olsted; her daughter-in-law, Shelley Olsted; her son-in-law, Jonathan Pickard, and her sister-in-law, Betty Mahoney. She also leaves several nieces and nephews as well as an extended family of godchildren and friends.
