Elizabeth M. "Betty" Schilling, 57, of 12 Bushey Road died yesterday at home after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 23, 1946, daughter of Francis and Doris Sharron Robare, she was educated in North Adams schools and was a 1965 graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School. She also graduated from the former licensed practical nursing program at McCann Technical School.
She moved to Pittsfield 36 years ago.
Mrs. Robare was employed as a medical assistant for 20 years by Drs. David Finck and Peter Zwerner of Berkshire Physicians and Surgeons, until leaving in January because of illness.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, and enjoyed golfing and cooking.
She and her husband, Daniel Schilling, were married Jan. 20, 1968.
Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Daniel C. Schilling of Lenox; two daughters, Kathleen M. Lewis of Franklin and Colleen L. Trager of Dalton; four brothers, Francis Robare of the state of Washington, John Robare of the state of Texas, Paul Robare of the state of Arkansas and George Robare of Martha's Vineyard, and six grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Elizabeth M. "Betty" Schilling, who died Nov. 15, 2003, at home surrounded by family and friends after a long battle with cancer, will be celebrated Monday at 10 at Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield by a family friend, the Rev. Christopher Waitekus, pastor of St. Ann's Church in Lenox.
Burial will take place at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours will be today, Sunday, from 4 to 8 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
Survivors include her six grandchildren, Annabella, Christopher and Abigail Schilling, Brendan and Bridget Lewis, and Julia Trager; her daughter-in-law, Sandra Schilling, and her sons-in-law, Brian Lewis and Jeremy Trager. She was predeceased by a brother, James Robare, in February 1996. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and was known for her tremendous sense of humor and unending generosity.
