Salvatore "JR" Carusotto, 73, of 2 Lakewood Drive died Wednesday evening at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on April 20, 1930, son of Guiseppe and Gracia Guidici Carusotto, he attended local schools.
A Korean War veteran, he served in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953.
He was the owner-operator of Carusotto Excavating in Richmond from 1960 until 1980, when ill health forced him to retire.
Mr. Carusotto was a communicant of St. Charles' Church.
He was a member of the Italian-American Club and a former member of the Sons of Italy Itam Lodge 564.
A tractor enthusiast, he enjoyed repairing tractors, tractor shows and lawn mowers.
He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, sports and going to casinos.
He and his wife, the former Lucille A. Dagesse, were married Aug. 16, 1958, in Notre Dame Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Joseph R. Carusotto and Richard P. Carusotto, both of Pittsfield; two daughters, Debra M. Carusotto of Norfolk, Va., and Jodie L. Carusotto of Hopkinton; three brothers, Angelo Carusotto, Anthony Carusotto and John Carusotto, all of Pittsfield, and three grandchildren. Another son, Steven J. Carusotto, died August 1997.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Salvatore "JR" Carusotto, who died Wednesday, Nov. 12, leaves his grandchildren, David Carusotto, Alex Carusotto and Alexis Carusotto, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 15, at 9:15 from the DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Friday, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.
