Mary C. Scoco, 79, of 45 Terrace Ave. died Monday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on July 27, 1924, daughter of Alexander and Josephine Prendergast Pires, she was a 1942 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
Mrs. Scoco had worked as a receptionist at Miss Marjorie's Beauty Salon, her sister Marjorie Meleca's business, until 1968. She also had worked at GE for several years and at the A.H. Rice Silk Mill.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a former longtime communicant of St. Mark's Church.
She enjoyed animals, especially cats, and horse racing, and was a Red Sox fan.
She and her husband, Leone Scoco, were married July 14, 1944, in Mount Carmel Church.
Besides her husband and her sister, of Daytona Beach, Fla., she leaves a daughter, Mary Williams of Pittsfield; three brothers, Douglas Pires, Joseph Pires and Anthony Pires, all of Pittsfield, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Julianne Hover, died in 1994.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mary C. Scoco, age 79, died Nov. 10, 2003. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. The funeral will be Friday at 8:15 from the funeral home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with whom she enjoyed spending time: Cliff and Shawn Hover; Tracy Brasie; Kerry Williams; Amanda, Brittany and Crystal Hover; Kaylee and Cody Hover; Kamryn Dunton; Hunter Brasie; Joseph Mucinski and Christina Gargon.
She also leaves her cat, Abby. She was predeceased by a sister, Eileen "Sis" Harrington, and a brother, Alfred "Laddie" Pires.
