Doris V. Rogers, 91, of 96 Strong Ave. died yesterday morning at Hillcrest Commons, where she had resided since July.
Born in Norfolk, Conn., on Oct. 22, 1912, daughter of Charles and Sophrona Tremper VanBuskirk, she was a graduate of Connecticut schools and a 1934 graduate of Syracuse (N.Y.) University.
Mrs. Rogers was a teacher at the former North Junior High School, now Reid Middle School, for 16 years, retiring in 1971.
She also taught at the former Williams High School in Stockbridge for two years.
She was a member of South Congregational Church and its Mae H. Mattoon Ladies' Association.
She was also a member of Order of Eastern Star, the Women's Club and the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association.
At one time, she played the piano at the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge.
Her husband, Ralph R. Rogers Jr., whom she married Oct. 24, 1937, died July 10, 1998.
She leaves a son, Ralph R. Rogers III of Pittsfield; a daughter, Sally R. Killackey of Pittsfield; a brother, Jay VanBuskirk of Crossville, Tenn., 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Nancy Whelan, died July 14, 2000.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Doris V. Rogers, who died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, will be held Thursday, Nov. 6, at 11 at DERY FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Joel F. Huntington, pastor of South Congregational Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 10 until 11 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Second Congregational Church in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
