Vito P. "Vic" DiNicola

Vito P. "Vic" DiNicola, 84, of 30 Putnam Ave. died yesterday morning at home.
Born in Sambuceto, province of Pescara, Italy, on Dec. 5, 1918, son of Pietro and Lucia Caldarella DiNicola, his family emigrated to America when he was 8 and he attended Pittsfield schools.
Mr. DiNicola was employed for 26 years by Berkshire Medical Center as manager of the laundry department, then in the transportation department, until retiring in 1983. At age 11, he became a caddy at the Pittsfield Country Club, and later worked for the former Elmvale Worsted Co. for about 15 years.
He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a founding member of its Holy Name Society. He also was a member of the Italian-American Club, the Charter 99 Stigmatine Scholarship Fund and the Sons of Italy Itam Lodge 564.
He was a New York Yankees fan and enjoyed playing golf and bowling.
He was a member of the Mount Carmel Church Wednesday Night and Sunday Afternoon bocce leagues, and the Italian-American Club Bocce League, where he won several tournaments.
He and his wife, the former Lucia M. DiMaleo, were married April 19, 1947, in Mount Carmel Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Raymond A. DiNicola of Pittsfield, with whom he made his home, a sister, Loretta Ciullo of Pittsfield, and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Vito P. "Vic" DiNicola will be Saturday at 8:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 at Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, Elder Services, or BCARC, in care of the funeral home.
The Mount Carmel Holy Name Society will meet Friday at 5:30 at the funeral home. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Deborah DiNicola; two grandchildren, Laura Lemay of Salem, N.H., and Sarah DiNicola of Framingham; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Two brothers are deceased, Nicola DiNicola and Fioravante "Nick" DiNicola.
