Alton E. Britigan

Alton E. Britigan, 84, of 56 Cloverdale St. and Hudson, Fla., died Tuesday afternoon at home.
Born in Pittsfield on June 14, 1919, son of Clarence and Florence Williams Britigan, he attended local schools.
A decorated Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1942 to 1945 as a military police officer in southern France, the North Apennines, the Rhineland, and in the Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno campaigns.
Mr. Britigan was employed by the city of Pittsfield as an operator at the waste-water treatment facility for more than 30 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church, and of St. Michael's Church in Hudson.
He was a life member of VFW Post 448 and a former member of American Legion Post 68.
He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, especially poker, and was a New York Yankees fan.
He had spent winters in Florida since 1989.
His first wife, the former Helen Goddeau, whom he married Aug. 14, 1948, died April 9, 1986.
He and his wife, the former Wilma Hooper, were married July 28, 1987, in Las Vegas.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, William E. Britigan of Pittsfield; a daughter, Nancy E. Britigan of Pittsfield; two stepsons, Ronald R. St. Pierre and Michael M. St. Pierre, both of Pittsfield; four stepdaughters, Diane D. St. Pierre of Sanibel, Fla., Marie M. Kimber of Pittsfield, Elaine E. Clark of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Audrey A. St. Pierre-Meloveck of Pittsfield; a sister, Ruth Hartmann of Pittsfield, 14 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Alton E. Britigan, age 84, who died Oct. 28, 2003, will be Saturday at 9:15 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Mark's Church. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201. He was predeceased by three brothers, William, Floyd and Clarence Britigan, and three sisters, Bertha Jones, Edna Homich and Doris Tolzdorf.
